Curriculum
FEA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM
The FEA elementary school program is based on the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and
physical development of each child. The curriculum is in line with the schools philosophy of
nurturing individuality, and promoting real world connections for its students. The standards of
excellence are set at and above the California Content Standards with emphasis on development of
strong foundational skills.
FEA has selected textbooks that meet the California State Framework and Standards from well-
known publishers from across the country. The elementary program curriculum includes:

  • Reading / Language Arts – Houghton Mifflin English Series
  • Mathematics – MacMillan / McGraw Hill
  • Arabic – I Love Arabic (Islamic Service Foundation)
  • Quran & Islamic Studies – I love Islam (Islamic Service Foundation)
  • Science – Pearson Scott Foresman – California Science
  • Social Studies – Scott Foresman
  • Physical Education
  • Art
  • Technology
  • Various Teacher Created materials across the curriculum.
The textbooks are only basic tools to help the teacher deliver a structured curriculum. The list is not
comprehensive and the teacher will supplement it with individually developed lessons, field trips,
activities, and other materials.

Programs and Age groups:
Preschoolers:
Students in the preschool will experience a holistic curriculum which draws from many areas of
development including – Language Arts, Large and Small Motor Skills, Dramatic Play, Art and
Sensory skills, Health and Safety practices, Islamic Studies, Pre-Literacy, Pre-Math, and Pre-
Science.
Preschoolers Age 3-4 :
Children in this classroom work on structured activities with emphasis on
fostering inquisitiveness, expression, and fun. To enter the Preschool room age 3-4, children must
be at least 3 years of age by November 1st of the school year in which they begin and must be toilet
trained. Ratio is 1 adult per 12 children.
Preschoolers Age 4-5:
Children in this classroom build on the 3-4 year old rooms’ foundation of self-help skills, independence,
and social development. To enter the Preschool room age 4-5, children must be at least 4 years of age
by November 1 st of the school year in which they begin and must be fully potty trained. Ratio is 1 adult
per 12 children. If, after being admitted to the program, the child shows behaviors of not being able to
use the restroom independently, the family will be asked to return at such time that the child can demonstrate
that observation and evaluation in regard to this matter for the entire time they attend the preschool
program.
Notice of Change of Kindergarten Entrance Age
Kindergarten Readiness Act (SB 1381) – SB 1381 changes from Dec. 2 to Sept. 1 so children enter kindergarten
at age 5. This legislation will phase in the new Kindergarten Readiness Act (SB 1381) – SB 1381 changes
California’s kindergarten entry date from Dec. 2 to Sept. 1 so children enter kindergarten at age 5.
This legislation will phase in the new age requirement by moving the cutoff date one month per year for three years,
beginning in 2012. The entry date change and transitional kindergarten would be fully implemented in school
districts across the state by the 2014-15 school year. For more information, check the following

Foslom Educational Academy will adopt the Kindergarten Readiness Act, and accordingly this will
also affect the preschool entrance age.
